MEET THE FOUNDERS
-
RACHEL DORAN
Rachel Doran is an eclectic dance educator, serving the next generation of dance artists with the philosophy that, with opportunity and intention, anyone can dance about anything. After a decade’s worth of nation-spanning freelance choreography and instruction, she now focuses her creative efforts in the Twin Cities.
A teacher at heart, Rachel knows that the magic of performance begins in the studio, where the inspiration of our embodied experiences meets the work of excavation, all facilitated by the collaboration that can only be found in a dance space. As managing director of Crash Dance Productions, a contemporary dance company, Rachel integrates her multidimensional influences to encourage performers to be versatile, available, and dynamic.
Though the path of her artistic output winds over time, Rachel has spent the entirety of her professional career as assistant coach of her alma mater, the Totino-Grace High School E’gals Dance Team; a long-standing relationship that is testament to the values the program instilled in her as a young woman: relentless dedication to your craft, and leadership as service.

LAURA SUKOWATEY
Laura Sukowatey is a dancer, photographer and cinematographer in Minneapolis, where she’s merged her love of dance, art, and production for over a decade.
After studying print and broadcast journalism, photography, and design, she started her career at a Minneapolis tech startup. There, she built and led a video marketing department from the ground up. Alongside this day job, came years of performing, teaching, and choreographing, staying rooted in her belief that dance was part of her life’s work. A moment of clarity came while teaching Cardio Dance at The Firm, where she found joy in creating space for adults to connect with movement in an approachable, low-stakes way. As a result, she became driven by a desire to carve out more opportunities for adult dancers of all levels in Minneapolis, which eventually came to life as Hothouse.
Laura is also the owner of STUDIO AURA, a creative production studio. She currently performs with Crash Dance Productions and Black Label Movement. Known for her distinct artistic voice and compelling storytelling, Laura’s creativity, work ethic, and vision make her a driving force in every endeavor she takes on.
