Foundational Ballet

Build strength, gain flexibility, and nurture your inner elegance. This beginning/intermediate adult ballet class prioritizes structure of movement, body placement, and pristine beauty. Whether this is your first ballet class, or have some past experience under your belt, come to the barre and enjoy a welcoming environment where we go through the basics together and come away stronger and in tune with our own bodies.
Leotard and tights are welcome, but not required. Wear comfortable, form-fitting clothing with ballet slippers or socks, and hair pulled away from the face.
Intermediate Ballet

Strengthen your foundation and refine your artistry. This intermediate ballet class is designed for adult dancers with prior ballet experience who are ready to expand their technical skills, musicality, and expression. Each class includes a full classical ballet barre, center work, and across-the-floor combinations, with an emphasis on balance, body placement, and movement quality.
We’ll build on fundamental technique while challenging your strength, control, and fluidity. Expect a supportive environment where you can deepen your practice, work toward personal goals, and reconnect with the joy of ballet.

Beginner Contemporary

Novice dancers and movers new to contemporary- this class is for you! Contemporary dance is a melange of styles from the classical (ballet, modern, jazz) to the current (hip hop, funk), all rolled into one gooey, beautiful mess.
Class begins with a warm focused on joint mobility, and short, guided improvisation exercises that will help you explore your own unique way of moving. After a few simple combinations of movements across the floor, class culminates in learning a phrase of contemporary choreography.

Join Black Label Movement, one of the Twin Cities’ leading contemporary dance companies, and artistic director and former Limón Dance Company member Carl Flink for this advanced, open-to-the-public company class. Each standalone class, rooted in Black Label’s unique athletic style, will build on a creative idea that Flink or a Company Mover brings for that day.

A class for your whole being; for the exploration of movement; for the wonder of it all. Invitations of individual research in flow, rigor, clarity, wildness and so much more. Through guided improvisation and channeling through your own body’s knowledge and unique essence, this class gets you moving in new ways by focusing on curiosity and possibility. Guided improvisation challenges your physicality and aims to expand the minds limiting beliefs; transforming stuck energy into permission and play. Seasoned dancers and non-dancers are welcome! Krump one, krump all! Beginners to the style will learn all the foundations of Krump, from grooves and textures, to timing and body composition. Experienced dancers will get to touch up their skills, and dig in to their personal style of this hard hitting, expressive genre of hip hop.

Bootywerk (Twerk)

Shake what your momma gave ya! Build confidence and break a sweat in this intermediate Twerk class. Develop coordination through guided warm up, then put it all together in a fun combination, sure to leave you stress-free and smiling.
Wear any fitness attire that makes your booty look good, and comfortable footwear; it's recommended to have knee pads.
House Fundamentals

Waacking

Waacking/ Whacking, is a street dance style founded in the LGBTQ+ clubs of LA during the disco era, as a way to reclaim identity and self-expression.
This class will break down the foundation of Waacking (waacks/ arm rolls, “strikes”, posing), and how to apply it to music and your body in a structured freestyle class.
After class, join us for Waacking Session, a free, weekly gathering where dancers freestyle, cypher, and hone their craft.

Feel Yourself Heels

Find the joy in self-love. Feel Yourself connects dance of the African Diaspora to street and classical styles for a unique movement experience that celebrates the power of presence. Class begins with a warm up to improve body awareness, teaches choreography to develop balance and fluidity, and incorporates moments of community building, affirmations, and manifestations. Like a master-class, each session will have a different flavor, but will always take you on a journey outside your comfort zone, bringing you closer to yourself.
Look good, feel good, but come prepared: bring socks, sneakers, and heels.

If you've been feeling like a newborn giraffe when dancing in heels, we got you. Focus on building a sturdy foundation for heels dancing through strength exercises for the core and legs, breathing methods, and various across the floor & center combinations. This class will introduce newcomers to dancing in heels, and get advanced dancers ready to take LT's combo class, Vibe'd Heels.
Dancers new to heels should try a closed toe, lace up boot with a 2-3" block heel; but take it as high as you'd like!

Pas de bourree your way to a one-hour jazz jam, including a classic warm up (isolations!), progressions & combos (pivot turn, jazz square!), and a cool down (no splits required!). Flex your inner Flashdance, or never do more than one full rotation at a time; this is a no judgement jazz class!
Classic Jazz Technique

Kicks, leaps, turns...the good stuff! Refresh your jazz dance technique in a one-hour class that combines the agility & strength of technical dance skills with the fun & fancy-free of classic jazz choreography.
Learn a series of warm-up, across-the-floor progressions, and center combinations, each with modifications and enrichments so you can customize your difficulty level and rigor. We'll always wrap up class with a stretch & cool down (heaven knows we need it!).
This class is made for folks with dance experience, particularly those who want to reconnect with jazz technique from their youth, in a way that works for their adult body.
